Using a large, fuzzy edged brush in Photoshop for my smudge tool, I select 50% pressure. You can play with fingerpainting or other settings...but I generally just use it at the default. You can see that just smudging can make a huge difference in how the piece 'feels'. For this reason, I feel more like I'm sculpting than drawing. I'm realizing here as I write this that knowing to use the smudge tool is one thing...I should draw arrows on this to show in what direction I smudge to get the look. Taht'll be the second picture on this page. In my dreams, I'd like to "Tape" to a mpg file my entire screen as I draw something. Then you can see me choose the tools, and watch the icon as I smudge and see exactly how I go about it... If anyone knows a good CHEAP tool to do this kind of thing, let me know.

Here's a picture of my smudge tool settings, so you can find them in Photoshop 6.
